Salon Meritage Benefit Ride

Thank you to all who joined our Salon Meritage Benefit Ride.

We managed to collect $1,135.00 (not including proceeds donated online) for the families of the tragic event that took place here in Seal Beach on October 12th 2011.

Over 40 beautiful bikes, and their riders, showed up and took the ride with us down the coast on PCH and up to Cook’s Corner. We stopped on the way home at Mother’s in Sunset Beach, and our good friends there passed the bucket around twice, which of course only added to an already cool and positive day of events. So a large portion of the funds donated came from there as well.

I am happy that we made it down the coast without too many riders being left behind for too long. There were riders like me and my local compadres who have been riding for 30 plus years, and others that had never, until yesterday, ridden in a large group. One of the dirt bike riders told me that it was his first experience riding in a large group and exclaimed that it was not going to be his last.

We had a very diverse group of riders and bikes — including our four Nimbus, current and classic Harley Davidsons, various BMW, Moto Guzzi, and several variations of off-road bikes. There were riders in their early twenties to others in their 60s; there were females as well as their mates, so it was a pretty diverse and eclectic group to say the least.

Thanks again to everyone that attended the event. Thank you for your donations, both from the riders in the group, as well as from the folks out there that donated to the Salon Meritage Fund online. Tragedies like this can either break a community apart or bring it even closer; I can only say that the show of support for the families left behind has proven the latter.

Thanks again to all for your support and for joining us in this ride.
